Professional Book Coaching

Many of my speakers are also authors.

Experienceology® shares 20 years of publishing experience by offering three book coaching services to our clients who are non-fiction writers.

Book coach. Publishing expert.

Why you need a professional book coach.

A good book coach keeps everything on track.

They give actionable feedback that gets the book in shape. They guide you through the publishing landscape and how to pitch it. And, before you’re in print, they’re helping craft the prelaunch promotion. I coach aspects of all of this.

Where a book coach can help you:

  • Manuscript refinement
  • Objective & actionable feedback
  • Navigating the publishing landscape
  • Publisher & agent pitches
  • Book tour / promotion strategy
  • Preparing for book talks & TV or podcast interviews

How a publishing expert can improve your book proposal.

A book proposal coach is like a marketing consultant. Your book is a product going out into a marketplace. They help you craft the pitch that sells your title to the right publisher or agent. You have one shot to sell the contact, so you have to be ready. Start your book proposal with someone who has successfully pitched the non-fiction market for 20 years, selling four books on proposal: a publishing expert.

Where a book proposal review can help you:

  • Strengthen the summary of your book
  • Summarize theme & unique marketplace strengths
  • Analyze & ID target audience, how to reach them
  • Check if your comparable titles are on point
  • Review your author bio
  • Refine marketing plan
  • Determine if sample chapters are compelling

Why you need a pro to read your manuscript.

A good beta reader is like a coach. They give you the actionable feedback that gets the book in shape. Friends and unpaid beta readers aren’t as thorough nor may they have the knowledge to tell you what’s not working. Professional developmental editors are great, and they’re expensive. You might need something in between: a book coach.

How a beta reader can help you:

  • Identify plot holes and inconsistencies
  • Assess pace and flow
  • Scrutinize character development (yes, even in memoir)
  • Engagement & comprehension
  • Spot dialogue weak points
  • World-building critique
  • Prepare for a professional edit

How a media expert improves your book promotion.

A good book coach is also a media expert. They help you craft the promotional strategy to pitch your title to the public via book talks, media and local appearances or social media. They empower you to be your own media and booking agent because your publisher most likely won’t. Give your title a boost with an author who has placed her books on TV, podcasts, and more.

Where a book promotion coach can help you:

  • Craft a book talk or interview to promote your title
  • Identify target audience & venues
  • Develop appearance pitch for TV, podcast, book talks
  • Choose & rehearse soundbites
  • Rehearse for positive and adverse situations

Why Stephanie should be your book coach

I’ve also been there. After 20+ years and 5 published books, I have worked in and networked with many sides of the publishing landscape. There’s one thing many writers still find surprising: nearly all of promotion rides on the author’s shoulders.

As the author, you’ll research the landscape and write your book proposal. Before you pitch agents or publishers, you want your manuscript to be as polished as possible. Once you sell your book, planning the book promotion begins. I produced a podcast interview series, social media campaigns, and organized tours for television and book store appearances to promote my last two book launches. How will you plan yours?
